Pheasants View

Description

Lying behind a quietly traditional country pub serving real ales and good food (Thursday to Sunday), and within easy reach of main roads and a wealth of attractions, these three convenient apartments are ideal for a weekend break. Upper Sapey village is surrounded by some of the finest countryside that Worcestershire and Herefordshire have to offer, affording great opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding. The counties’ many waterways boast miles of peaceful riverbanks and canal towpaths for visitors to wander along, whilst golf enthusiasts will be delighted to find a course only 300 yards away. Just 7 miles distant, the small market towns of Tenbury Wells and Bromyard provide a variety of shops and inns as well as an indoor swimming pool, theatre and leisure centre. Great Witley Court and Church, Berrington Hall, Brockhampton, Croft Castle and the magnificent cathedrals at Hereford and Worcester are all within a short drive and Worcester also boasts river boat trips, a racecourse and the famous county cricket ground. The Three Counties showground and (free) Malvern Water are found at the charming town of Malvern, and great days out can include a ride on the Severn Valley Steam Railway, a trip to Gloucester’s historic docks and the Black Country Museum, or a visit to the West Midlands Safari Park. Shakespeare’s birthplace at Stratford-upon-Avon (38 miles), Cadbury World, the Ironbridge industrial museum and the lower Wye Valley are all a little further afield. Shop 3 miles.

Reviews

Having booked a fairly short notice, we found this accommodation clean and tidy on arrival. The owner popped in to welcome us and see if we had everything. She had provided some welcome basic food items too, which was an extra bonus. The layout was very easy to get used to, the kitchen had everything needed for making meals, the shower room was clean and well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. There was central heating all day if you needed it (we didn't) and constant hot water. There was a selection of books in the cottage, and we were invited to use the PC at the pub if we needed Internet access. Altogether it was a very pleasant week. Downside? You can't get a mobile phone signal and the quality of the linen, towels, was clean but basic. There was no washing machine, but plenty of hanging space outside for hand washing. We would stay here again and would recommend it to friends.

Taking a break in one of our holiday cottages in Herefordshire is the perfect antidote to the stresses and strains of city life. The countryside here is mainly farmland, a patchwork of field and meadows, and village life proceeds at a gentle pace. But there’s plenty to do if you’re feeling active. Walking, cycling and riding are all popular activities here and for the more adventurous there’s canoeing and rock climbing on offer.

This is also the perfect opportunity to explore the beautiful Wye Valley. Set in a limestone gorge and surrounded by dense woodlands, the valley is a haven for wildlife, some of it rarely seen outside the county. Or, for something different during one of our Herefordshire cottage holidays, why not take the cider tour?

There are also some delightful towns and villages to explore. The city of Hereford has an impressive cathedral, famous for the Mappa Mundi, showing the world as it was seen at the end of the 13th century. Ross-on-Wye is the main tourist centre for the area and has a number of lovely antique shops to browse, while the high street in historic Ledbury is lined with delightful timbered Tudor houses.
